Jarrett’s proudest moment, apart from his marriage and birth of his two daughters, was receiving the Community Hero Award while serving office as his town’s youngest Mayor. His most humbling? When they recognized a day in his honor.
Both in volunteer and executive leadership roles, he is respected for leading during crisis, bringing order to chaos, delivering compelling messaging to diverse groups of all sizes and gaining change buy-in at the highest levels.
These skills have proved invaluable during mergers and aquisitions integrations at MetLife/MassMutual, when rallying resources to rebuild his town as Mayor during post-Super Storm Sandy, as the president of a volunteer first aid squad, and during his 25 years as a first responder.
Engel has been brought in to lead and build organizations through the implementation of processes,
strategies and tactics from inception; drive change management and leadership learning adopted as a best practice; and build sales, marketing and leadership development programs from the ground up.
As a previous home office executive of both MetLife and MassMutual’s distribution groups, Engel is now a member of the MassMutual Carolina’s Leadership Team, where he continues to be regarded as a reliable and versatile problem solver whose solutions have helped the organization to pivot and transform professionals into leaders.
Before joining MassMutual Carolinas, he built a sales and leadership development program regionally from inception and then successfully scaled this program nationally to support all sales managers. He most recently catapulted an existing General Agent Bench Leadership program for high-performing independent field sales managers into a first-class business unit and designed/implemented a comprehensive national sales manager curriculum.
A former Regional Director at MassMutual, Engel brought resources together to successfully integrate firms and align them to the organization’s strategy. Engel brought much-needed structure and process to ad-hoc sales, marketing, technology and training – creating product materials, web redesigns and sales/marketing tools.
The Early Years
It was his passion for driving sales results that quickly earned him the position as MetLife’s first Channel Sales (ID) Account Manager, where he drove the seamless nationwide execution of key business initiatives and product rollouts as the chief liaison between field sales and corporate headquarters.
During his first five years with MetLife, Engel honed his sales acumen to propel himself from a financial advisor to become one of its youngest Agency Directors.
In these roles he created process improvements for sales units while supporting marketing, recruiting, training, financial planning, and earning sales accolades including Million Dollar Roundtable and sales/management Leaders Conference awards.
Engel is an active supporter of GAMA International and its Leadership Cabinet, an organization dedicated to insurance and financial services industry leadership learning. A past Advisory Board member for Mutual Impact, a MassMutual employee-driven community investment program, he currently serves the Charlotte community with MassMutual Carolinas by supporting such organizations as Patriots Path and Classroom Central.
