The Mickey family is a legacy with Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company (MassMutual) and the insurance and financial services industry. John Mickey joined the industry and MassMutual in 1976 as a third generation of life underwriters. After UNC-Chapel Hill graduation, John traveled the world for two years, including employment during extended stays in both Scotland and Australia. Returning home, John and his father, Joseph H. Mickey, joined together in a strong partnership that lasted 35 years.
In 1989, John and his father came together with Chip Holden to form Holden Mickey & Mickey Inc. with offices in downtown Winston-Salem. John is recognized within his company as well as industry wide for his success as a leader in the field as evidenced by his life membership in the Million Dollar Round Table. John attributes the recognition he has received to his clients’ loyalty and trust. He ties his success to being a dependable, sensitive listener and an advocate for each client.
John assists with the financial needs for the families and businesses he advises through various financial products, estate planning tools, and benefits programs available from over 30 insurance carriers. Attorneys and accountants refer clients to John because they recognize the value of a team approach to solving insurance and financial needs.
John was recognized in 2006 through 2009 as Agency Leader for Long-Term Care Insurance by The Greensboro Agency, a general agency of Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company (MassMutual). A Chartered Life Underwriter, John is a member of the Association of Advanced Life Underwriters, the Winston-Salem Estate Planning Council, and a life member of the Million Dollar Round Table. He has also earned the CLTC designation for certification in long term care coverage. He works with other Holden & Mickey principals to promote MassMutual’s LifeBridgeSM Program, a totally free term life insurance* program for qualified working parents in the Triad, and is one of the national leaders in helping families apply.
John’s volunteer services to agencies in the community have included leadership in Reynolda Rotary, the Moravian Church in the Southern Province, Home Moravian Church, and the Winston-Salem Chapter of the American Cancer Society among others. John, his spouse Susan, and daughter Hollis shepherd a flock of award-winning rare breed sheep.
