Professional Story
Robert J. "Rob" Kauffman, CLTC, has been in the insurance business since 1989. For more than 35 years he has focused on protection planning: the coverage a family or a business owner depends on when a death, a disability, or a long-term care need puts the rest of the plan under strain.
Rob grew up around the profession. His father spent 52 years in the business. Rob studied general business at the University of Rhode Island, and a life insurance course in his final semester set the direction of his career.
The part of the work that matters most to Rob is the moment coverage is used. He has delivered death claims to families, and he knows the clients who receive disability benefits. "I truly understand the realities of life and how cruel and unfair it can be," Rob says. "When something bad happens, I come in with a check and tell the loved ones they are taken care of."
Earlier in his career, Rob's work was product-driven. He joined Connecticut Financial for its planning process, which begins with a written comprehensive financial plan before any coverage or strategy is recommended. "It's really not about product. It's about process," Rob says. He describes the firm's approach as treating clients and their families "with a lot of care, with a lot of empathy": listening first, making recommendations from there, and reducing the anxiety clients carry about their finances.
