Steven Diaz joined the Marine Corps after the 9/11 attacks and was inspired to earn his citizenship through service, having met the eligibility requirements of the "Naturalization Through Military Service Act." As a Marine, he was awarded the Purple Heart and the Combat Action Ribbon. Steven became an American citizen paid with blood.
After his service Steven becam a founding member of the non-profit Hidden Wounds after he grew a passion to assist veterans through suicide prevention and mental health services. Steven has become a mentor and advisor to other Veterans as well as other organizations servicing the military community. Recently Steven was selected to join he board of Folds of Honor South Carolina and has helped raise more than a million dollars since its inception in 2019. Steven says his commitment to the military post-service is his coping mechanism, and he enjoys the camaraderie service members have with each other.
Steven is a graduate of the University of South Carolina with a bachelor's degree in business administration. Steven is a founding member of USC's newest affinity group just for Veteran Alumni across the country. Steven was recruited in 2019 by various financial service firms to serve as a Veteran Ambassador helping transitioning Veterans deal with post-military life or help them gain employment with these firms to continue their services to others. Steven is currently a licensed financial professional with MassMutual South Carolina.
Steven lives in Columbia with his wife Laura, seven-year-old son Thomas and one-year-old daughter Rosie Kay.
